I saw a bunch of people standing outside a theatre today protesting the da vinci code.
The book and now the movie have caused a lot of widespread commotion. I wished I had taken a picture, but I'm sure they would have been wierded out by that.
Their signs and banners claimed that the da vinci code attacked jesus christ and attacked the catholic faith. (just so you know they did use the word attack)
Now as I waited at the stop light, right in front of them, I couldn't help but think about all this. These people are so offended. By what? A book or movie... of FICTION!!!
That is the thing that bugs me. It's fiction. For some reason everybody has this mixed up.
Maybe it is because the author claimed many things in his book of fiction to be facts. Now some of the things were, such as the locations of things and the fact that some of the "groups" existed. However that is where it ends. The main fact that was wrong is the "priory of sion". It didn't have all of those famous people as leaders. It was a made up group. Now I don't remember all of the specifics but just so you know, the author didn't make up all the stuff. There were different people involved, but the author took it as fact.
So... this fiction book talked about a lot of things that are contradictory to that of the catholic faiths beleifs. So now some people are really mad. But it is only FICTION!!! Get over it. Go attack a book or movie that is about killing people or worshiping the devil, not a clever book that peaks interest because it involves jesus being married and having children.
Now what is so bad about that. I don't know. The only thing I see is that it is different than what we take for granted.
What if he did? Now he is just more human. It doesn't take away at all from his teachings or anything else.
Basically, I don't know why people are taking this so personal.
